A+ Academy is a learning center with over 30 years of experience. We offer enrichment programs for grades 3-8 and specialize in preparing students for the SHSAT, SAT, ACT, and other admissions processes for middle school, high school, and colleges.

Grades 3-8

  • Our 3rd through 8th-grade math and reading enrichment class focuses on both building the foundations of the common core curriculum for that grade level and introducing your child to more advanced applications of those grade-level concepts. Both mathematics and English Language Arts are covered in the class. Mathematics will include operations drills and word problems, while ELA focuses on reading comprehension, vocabulary, written responses, and grammar.

  • Our 3rd through 7th-grade creative writing class focuses on working with your child to improve his/her writing ability. The class will focus on reading and writing both fiction and nonfiction narratives, as well as opinion pieces, letters, poems, biographies, and other creative writing materials. The class will also teach grammar concepts and composition best practices. The 6th-7th grade courses will also train your child to write a cohesive essay given a chosen topic within a short time frame, as will be required during standardized exams.

  • Our SHSAT classes are specifically designed to prepare your child for the SHSAT exam, that takes place at the end of October of their 8th grade year. This class will consist of 1.5 hours of math everyday and 1.5 hours of verbal every day. The math portion includes algebra, geometry, and word problems. The verbal portion includes logic, reasoning, and reading comprehension. Students will be placed in the appropriate SHSAT-level class based on their A+ Academy entrance exam score.

  • Public Speaking is an essential skill for your child. Imagine speaking to a classroom full of other students and knowing that everyone is understanding you and impressed by how comfortable, confident and relaxed you seem. Wouldn't it be nice to never again become nervous before speaking in front of class, teachers or parents? In this class, you will learn the following:

    • How to convey your thoughts and ideas effectively and in an engaging manner

    • How to relax before giving a presentation or speaking in front of a larg

    • audience

    • How to organize your thoughts and tailor your delivery to different audiences

    • How to deliver your perspective and rebuttal against your opponents' in debates on important topics

    Each class is limited to a maximum of 8 students.

  • We offer Mark Twain preparatory courses for three of Mark Twain’s talent exams: Computer and Math, Science, and Writing. All three classes are designed specifically to prepare students for these Mark Twain exams. These rigorous courses focus on middle school topics and should be attended only by those who already excel in these areas. 2 full-length mock exams are included in the course.

  • Our full-day Hunter class will teach both the math and reading portions of the Hunter exam, as well as the mandatory essay. The morning class will be dedicated to math and reading, while the afternoon writing class will focus on coaching students to explore their creative side through personal statements and essay writing.

  • Our SHSAT classes are specifically designed to prepare your child for the SHSAT exam, which takes place at the end of October of their 8th-grade year.   • SHSAT boot camp is a shortened version of our summer SHSAT program designed for students who will be away for the summer.  The course will take place over 14 weeks (3 hours every Sunday afternoon) starting in late March.

Grades 9-12

  • Our Regents course is a 12-week program that takes place in the Spring, before the June Regents exam. The course focuses on a review of the overall Regents curriculum, along with full-length practice exams to help your child be best prepared for the actual June exam. Our Regents review courses include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Chemistry, Physics, and Living Environment.

  • Our 9th-grade math and reading enrichment class is designed for students entering 9th grade in September. The class focuses on preparing your child for high school-level mathematics and verbal skills. Our math classes are divided into Algebra and Geometry, depending on what the student will be taking at school in 9th grade. Our English class will focus on reading comprehension, in-class discussion of debate topics, and analysis of current events.

  • Our PSAT class is designed for students who will be entering the 10th grade in September. The class focuses on introducing the students to the PSAT exam, as well as preparing for the 10th grade math class. The math portion of this PSAT class will be split between PSAT math and either geometry or trigonometry, depending on what your child will be taking in his 10th grade. The verbal portion of the class will be focused on PSAT reading and writing.

  • Our SAT class is designed for students entering 11th or 12th grade in September. The class focuses on preparing your child for the SAT exam. Students will be placed in their SAT class based on the results of their A+ Academy entrance exam, by subject. Students with higher math and lower verbal abilities will be placed accordingly into his/her math and verbal classes. The math portion of this class will include all four SAT math categories: numbers & operations, algebra & functions, geometry & measurements, and data analysis, probability, and statistics. The verbal portion of the class will be focused on passage-based reading, sentence completion, grammar, and SAT essay writing.
