Middle School and High School Admissions Process

We're dedicated to the success of students and their parents' ability to understand school admission process because we know firsthand that knowledge and a healthy support system is just as important as grades and testing. We had a full house at this seminar and held a similar event two days in a row to accommodate every parents' schedule.

The new SHSAT exam has drastically changed the way students are graded and admitted into specialized high schools. This includes sections on scrambled paragraphs being replaced with editing questions and other major changes in the test format. We joined over 400 students and parents, experts of Specialized High schools and tests on how to best prepare for the new exam.

Every March, A+ Academy is the host site for the Math Kangaroo Competition.  Math Kangaroo is an international math competition for thousands of students in Grades 1-12.  It is held once a year in March.  Students who do well on the competition can get recognition from the Math Kangaroo organization (top percentile and honorable mention for city, state, country, international) and is a great resume builder for future school applications. Math Kangaroo questions require a lot of logic reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving.  It is a great opportunity to test these skill sets for your child, beyond just computational math.

We spent this weekend with Stuyvesant High School Principal, Eric Contreras, and hundreds of students, parents all eager to learn about our new SHSAT Mock exam and how to prepare for high school. Thank you Chinese-American Planning Council for hosting such a wonderful event!
